TT Norms® Pro Serif

About font family

Introducing TT Norms® Pro Serif, version 1.100! The updated font now has new OpenType features and localization for the Serbian and Bulgarian languages.

TT Norms® Pro Serif is a functional serif based on our studio’s main bestseller—the versatile sans serif TT Norms® Pro. Together, they form an ideal font pair. Although these typefaces are made for each other, they can easily be used independently and paired with other fonts.

So, TT Norms® Pro Serif is a self-sufficient and elegant serif, neutral at the same time. It is easy to recognize due to its gentle proportion dynamics, open aperture, slanted oval axis, and low stroke contrast. Another distinctive feature of this font is brutal serifs that adjust in length according to the weight of the font.

As well as TT Norms Pro, there are Italic font styles in TT Norms® Pro Serif. However, for this serif, we have designed true italics instead of simple slanted font styles. Their key feature is the ability of the lowercase letterforms to change in reference to the roman font styles. They become more rounded, moving towards handwritten shapes. The nature of the italics turned out sharper than that of the roman font styles. It can be used to place accents that would attract attention without interfering with the process of reading.

TT Norms® Pro Serif is capable of solving multiple design tasks. It is highly readable, which makes it convenient for small point sizes. This serif’s application range is broad and diverse: it can be used for websites, printed materials, and packaging design. The font is well-suited for projects in the domains of culture, art, history, or literature and can be implemented into the designs of signs, posters, or premium products and services.

TT Norms® Pro Serif, version 1.100, consists of:

  • 24 font styles: 11 roman, 11 italic, and 2 variable fonts (one for the roman font styles and another—for italics);
  • 1380 glyphs in each font style;
  • 31 OpenType features, including options for localization.

TT Norms Pro Serif—the perfect match for the famous TypeType sans serif

At the end of 2021, we thought of designing a serif to complement our bestseller TT Norms® Pro. It took us a full year to create the font. This development process has resulted in a serif easily recognizable by its low-contrasted proportions, slanted oval axis, dynamic widths, and contrast in diagonals. TT Norms Pro Serif is not just an expansion; it’s a complete serif based on the functional sans TT Norms® Pro. Our new serif is a perfect fit for websites, book layouts, or packaging design. In 2023, we significantly upgraded this font family, adding several new languages and OpenType features.

Ideal font pairs with TT Norms® Pro Serif

What is a font pair, and what does it serve for?

A font pair is a combination of two fonts within one text block. Most often, one of the fonts in a pair is a more expressive headline font, and the other one serves to communicate information. Such fonts complement each other and help designers solve various tasks, like highlighting key elements, adding emotional expressiveness to the project, or separating semantic blocks.

How to choose fonts for a project: Several general recommendations

To begin with, establish the project's tone. Choose the fonts that stylistically match the main idea. After that, you need to determine the functions of each font in the project and their hierarchy: which font will complement the design and which one will serve to attract attention as the main element. You need to assess the difference between the fonts and decide what kind of information each of them should convey. First, we recommend choosing the base font you will use most, and then you can find a suitable pair for it.

Core principles of font pairing and recommendations from designers

The main rule you should follow when matching two fonts is that both similarities and differences must be visible between them. You can highlight the coherence of fonts by the following characteristics: contrast, proportions, width, openness of characters, individual letter shapes, and overall tone. Feel free to experiment with different combinations. We also recommend analyzing the projects you like: this way, you can enhance your visual skills, elevate your knowledge base, and gain confidence in dealing with typography.
