TT Fors is a modern geometric sans serif

TT Fors

The creation of TT Fors was inspired by an in-depth study of geometric sans serifs from the first third of the 20th century and their influence on visual culture and design of the past century. Our goal was to develop a versatile and functional typeface that, while maintaining a connection with the legacy of great typographers of the past, would meet contemporary requirements and solve current challenges. In 2024, we presented a major update to the TT Fors family, with the condensed version—TT Fors Condensed—becoming a key element. Like the main family, it includes 18 styles, which significantly expands design possibilities. Additionally, a third axis—Width—was added to the variable version of TT Fors, allowing designers to dynamically change the font width from condensed to standard directly during the workflow. In 2025, we continued to develop the typeface, expanding the Latin and Cyrillic alphabets with new glyphs. This update increased TT Fors language support by 57 languages, making it even more versatile and accessible to designers worldwide.

Description

About font family TT Fors
220+ Language support

Meet the legendary TT Fors in version 2.100!

This functional and aesthetic font from the TypeType’s basic font collection has become even better: now it contains even more characters, features, stylistic alternatives, and language support.

TT Fors is a geometric sans serif with a neutral character and refined proportions. The font complements TypeType’s line of versatile sans serifs, which already includes families such as TT Norms® Pro, TT Commons™ Pro, TT Hoves Pro, TT Interphases Pro and TT Firs Neue.

The inspiration for creating TT Fors came from studying geometric sans serifs from the early to mid-20th century and analyzing their influence on the visual culture and design of that era. We aimed to create a typeface that, while maintaining a connection with the legacy of great typographers of the past, would meet modern requirements and solve contemporary challenges.

The characters in the font have dynamic proportions. Their forms are as close as possible to basic geometric shapes (circle, triangle, square). Rounded characters tend towards a perfect circle, while others have narrower proportions. The relatively tall lowercase characters make the font even more functional. The refined geometric shapes and unified construction principles allow TT Fors to be used in both large and very small point sizes.

The display version maintains the clean aesthetic of the basic styles while adding new meanings. The proportions and shapes of the characters remain recognizable, but with a special twist—high-contrast symbols. The set aims for uniformity, and the slightly closed terminals emphasize the character of the entire typeface.

The large number of OpenType features allows designers to adapt the font to their tastes and needs. TT Fors includes ligatures, circled figures, arrows, and other stylistic alternatives and features. Additionally, the family includes two variable fonts. The display subfamily has two variable axes (weight and slant), while the basic one has three (weight, width, and slant). In 2024, TT Fors also received a narrow Condensed version.

In the updated version, we significantly expanded the character set: we added extended Cyrillic and complemented Latin alphabets, expanded the main set of currencies, added currencies for numerators/denominators, oldstyle and oldstyle tabular figures. We also added new useful OpenType features, stylistic sets, and language support.

The font is suitable for any modern task: in branding and packaging design, in website interfaces and mobile applications. The versatility of the typeface is emphasized by its name: Fors is derived from the English word “for. ”

TT Fors 2.100 includes:

  • 50 styles: 18 upright, 18 italic, and 1 variable font in the main subfamily (Basic + Condensed), 6 upright, 6 italic, and 1 variable font in the display subfamily
  • 1,366 characters in each style of the basic subfamily, 813 characters in each style of the display subfamily
  • 39 OpenType features in the basic and 36 in the display subfamily
  • Support for over 220 languages

TT Fors—the font that’s made for you!

Ideal font pairs with TT Fors

What is a font pair, and what does it serve for?

A font pair is a combination of two fonts within one text block. Most often, one of the fonts in a pair is a more expressive headline font, and the other one serves to communicate information. Such fonts complement each other and help designers solve various tasks, like highlighting key elements, adding emotional expressiveness to the project, or separating semantic blocks.

How to choose fonts for a project: Several general recommendations

To begin with, establish the project's tone. Choose the fonts that stylistically match the main idea. After that, you need to determine the functions of each font in the project and their hierarchy: which font will complement the design and which one will serve to attract attention as the main element. You need to assess the difference between the fonts and decide what kind of information each of them should convey. First, we recommend choosing the base font you will use most, and then you can find a suitable pair for it.

Core principles of font pairing and recommendations from designers

The main rule you should follow when matching two fonts is that both similarities and differences must be visible between them. You can highlight the coherence of fonts by the following characteristics: contrast, proportions, width, openness of characters, individual letter shapes, and overall tone. Feel free to experiment with different combinations. We also recommend analyzing the projects you like: this way, you can enhance your visual skills, elevate your knowledge base, and gain confidence in dealing with typography.
