TT Runs

About font family

Introducing TT Runs, version 2.000!

We updated the font and amplified its capabilities: added new characters, languages, and OpenType features, redesigned slanted font styles, worked on contours, and entirely revamped the font’s technical aspects.

TT Runs is a wide sans serif with unusual proportions. This font was designed for the sports industry. Before diving into the development, we thoroughly researched the identities of various Olympic venues and analyzed current sports brands. We made every effort to design a unique, stylish, modern font well-suited for the sports sector—and more!

TT Runs has wide and unusual proportions that are different from the traditional ones. They look unique and seem «flipped,» which is particularly noticeable in the figure 8 and the letters K, C, S, and R.  This design choice gives TT Runs a unique, dynamic look.

The typeface features a variable font with two variation axes: weight and slant. We revamped the font and made it even more convenient, bringing it to perfection from both technical and graphic points of view. Also, TT Runs, version 2.000, was enhanced with updated numerators with currency symbols and black circled numbers. Regarding language support, we integrated localization features for Dutch, Catalan, Turkish, Serbian, Bashkir, Chuvash, Bulgarian, and Romanian.

TT Runs is an expressive typeface that fits perfectly into sports-related projects: it looks aesthetic on sports and casual clothes and works well for printing on any material. Besides, the typeface is an excellent match for other modern projects: after the update, the application range of TT Runs expanded significantly. Due to its distinctive proportions, the typeface attracts attention and does a great job in placing accents.

The updated TT Runs includes:

  • 19 font styles: 9 roman, 9 italic, and a variable font.
  • 917 characters in each font style;
  • 31 OpenType features;
  • 240+ languages support.

The TT Runs project started with a fairly simple idea—to create a wide modern sans-serif, which will reflect the sporty style and look good on sportswear. Before proceeding to sketching, we examined the theme of Olympic venues and their identities, and also traced the evolution of «sports» typefaces through different eras and continents.

Ideal font pairs with TT Runs

What is a font pair, and what does it serve for?

A font pair is a combination of two fonts within one text block. Most often, one of the fonts in a pair is a more expressive headline font, and the other one serves to communicate information. Such fonts complement each other and help designers solve various tasks, like highlighting key elements, adding emotional expressiveness to the project, or separating semantic blocks.

How to choose fonts for a project: Several general recommendations

To begin with, establish the project's tone. Choose the fonts that stylistically match the main idea. After that, you need to determine the functions of each font in the project and their hierarchy: which font will complement the design and which one will serve to attract attention as the main element. You need to assess the difference between the fonts and decide what kind of information each of them should convey. First, we recommend choosing the base font you will use most, and then you can find a suitable pair for it.

Core principles of font pairing and recommendations from designers

The main rule you should follow when matching two fonts is that both similarities and differences must be visible between them. You can highlight the coherence of fonts by the following characteristics: contrast, proportions, width, openness of characters, individual letter shapes, and overall tone. Feel free to experiment with different combinations. We also recommend analyzing the projects you like: this way, you can enhance your visual skills, elevate your knowledge base, and gain confidence in dealing with typography.
