TT Runs—irregular proportions in a bright display fontfamily

The TT Runs project started with a fairly simple idea—to create a wide modern sans-serif, which will reflect the sporty style and look good on sportswear. Before proceeding to sketching, we examined the theme of Olympic venues and their identities, and also traced the evolution of «sports» typefaces through different eras and continents.

Description

About font family TT Runs
240+ Language support

Introducing TT Runs version 3.000!

We’ve updated the font, expanding its capabilities by adding new glyphs and languages.

TT Runs is a wide display sans serif with unusual proportions. This is a font created specifically for the sports industry. Before starting its development, we conducted detailed research on Olympic venues and their identities, and also analyzed current sports brands. All this was done to create a unique, stylish, and modern font suitable for the sports sector (and beyond)!

TT Runs features wide and unusual proportions and a contrast that differs from the classic style. Because of this, the character shapes look unfamiliar and appear “inverted.” This is evident in the bold styles and is especially noticeable in the figure 8, letters “K”, “Ж”, “R”, “Сс”, “Ss”, “Зз”, and others. This solution lends the font originality and dynamism. Other design features include the straight leg of “R”, non-standard legs of “Лл”, a sharp “M”, an unusual “G”, “compressed” diacritics in the bold masters, and several unusual ligatures.

The typeface includes a variable font that changes along two axes—slant and weight. In the updated version, we added new glyphs—specifically, minuscule currency symbols, and the Som, Sum, and Dong currencies for all cases. Support for three new languages also appeared: Urum, Greek, and Vietnamese. We also partially updated kerning and hinting.

TT Runs is an expressive font that fits perfectly into sports-themed projects: it looks aesthetic on sportswear and casual clothing and is suitable for printing on any material. At the same time, the typeface is also excellent for other modern projects: after the update, its sphere of application has significantly expanded. Thanks to its proportions, the font attracts attention and works effectively where accents need to be placed.

TT Runs 3.000 includes:

  • 19 styles: 9 uprights, 9 italics, and 1 variable font
  • 1,160 glyphs per style
  • 30 OpenType features
  • Support for over 245 languages

Ideal font pairs with TT Runs

What is a font pair, and what does it serve for?

A font pair is a combination of two fonts within one text block. Most often, one of the fonts in a pair is a more expressive headline font, and the other one serves to communicate information. Such fonts complement each other and help designers solve various tasks, like highlighting key elements, adding emotional expressiveness to the project, or separating semantic blocks.

How to choose fonts for a project: Several general recommendations

To begin with, establish the project's tone. Choose the fonts that stylistically match the main idea. After that, you need to determine the functions of each font in the project and their hierarchy: which font will complement the design and which one will serve to attract attention as the main element. You need to assess the difference between the fonts and decide what kind of information each of them should convey. First, we recommend choosing the base font you will use most, and then you can find a suitable pair for it.

Core principles of font pairing and recommendations from designers

The main rule you should follow when matching two fonts is that both similarities and differences must be visible between them. You can highlight the coherence of fonts by the following characteristics: contrast, proportions, width, openness of characters, individual letter shapes, and overall tone. Feel free to experiment with different combinations. We also recommend analyzing the projects you like: this way, you can enhance your visual skills, elevate your knowledge base, and gain confidence in dealing with typography.
